Duke Watson’s career night powers UCF past Georgia State
Summary
Pick/market: UCF needed a jolt after walking into the locker room trailing Georgia State at halftime.
UCF needed a jolt after walking into the locker room trailing Georgia State at halftime. Duke Watson provided it on the Knights’ first offensive snap of the third quarter. Watson took the handoff from Keyone Jenkins , burst through an opening and outran the Georgia State defense for a 63-yard touchdown. The explosive run erased a 24-20 deficit and put UCF ahead for good in its 44-30 victory Saturday night at the Acrisure Bounce House. There was little doubt in Watson’s mind about the outcome once he saw the opening. “Once I see a hole, I kind of already figure it’s a touchdown,” Watson said. “Once I saw the hole, I knew it was a touchdown.” The play highlighted a career night for the Louisville transfer. Watson rushed 14 times for a career-high 177 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 12.6 yards per carry. He surpassed 1,000 career rushing yards and recorded the fourth 100-yard performance of his college career. Watson also became the first UCF player to rush for at least 171 yards since RJ Harvey did so against Arizona on Nov. 2, 2024.
