The balance between explosiveness and discipline
Summary
QB/LB: Through three games, the team has demonstrated that they're capable of making big play after big play on both sides of the ball.
Through three games, the team has demonstrated that they're capable of making big play after big play on both sides of the ball. That's obviously great and gives the team a high ceiling. However, the team has demonstrated that they're equally capable of shooting themselves in the foot with discipline issues. The penalties are a problem. The special teams play last night was surprisingly poor. Our secondary players had a rough game versus a real QB in Browne and a legit receiver in Townsend. Figuring out how to maintain explosiveness and big play making while cutting down on mistakes is certainly not a unique challenge to UCLA, but how successful UCLA is in striking the right balance will determine just how far the team can go this season. Looking at the schedule, a playoff appearance is not out of the question, but they need to clean up the discipline issues.
