I’m glad you watched the game, makes this discussion more interesting. There’s a big difference between New Mexico losing 14-6 to Oklahoma from Wisconsin losing 37-0 to Iowa. I’m not sure how we can conclude a different mountain west QB changes the outcome for New Mexico last night. I didn’t see a ton of meat left on the passing game bone. Similarly, the only game that last year I think the outcome probably changes to a win with Billy Edwards is Minnesota for a 5-7 record. I suppose reasonable minds can disagree there on a couple games, but we were down multiple scores going into the 4th of each loss, and Edwards isn’t a world beater.
I’m not disagreeing that losing a starting QB is a challenge, but I’ve seen more problems with wisconsin the past four years than to just conclude the only problem is being snakebit at QB. When I say “excuse,” I mean I think that qb injuries isn’t enough of a reason to throw up our hands at a 19-22 record. And part of the reason I think it’s an “excuse” is having the QB drop back and scramble as much as Longo did creates more injury risk for the QB, so you better have a decent backup if you’re going to run that system.
