Offense: I’ll add my opinion to the OP’s post.
I’ll add my opinion to the OP’s post. I’m a 55 year old male. I thought it was a pretty good atmosphere last night, not even close to being the best, but it was decent. I also like getting after the opposing offense with the noise. There were a few times my ears hurt. I sit in section 125. That being said, there is no way I have any desire to stand for long periods of time. I’ll stand when the person in front of me is standing, but I don’t prefer it. You can still make plenty of noise sitting down. I think there’s a perception that to be a good fan, you’ve got to be standing and loud. I don’t really see how standing is going to intimidate or affect opposing offenses. Noise yes, but standing? I just think it is a fixation that some fans are obsessed with. I get it when something exciting happens. You want to jump up and scream. It’s cool and it’s fun. But to be so obsessed about it that you are going to affect someone else’s experience because you’ve decided that you’re going to die on that hill? Sure, it’s your ticket and it’s a football game, but still, not everyone has to be like you. Not everyone is going to want to stand for long periods, and all you’re doing is creating hard feelings and ruining someone else’s experience and enjoyment. I don’t like projecting onto everyone else about how they should be acting at a game. You’re going to get the whole spectrum of all types of fans at games. It’s just how it is and it’s probably better just to accept that. I really do appreciate the fans that get after it, but I don’t think we need to be wringing our hands constantly about this idea of being a rabid fanbase, and that if you don’t fit into that category by toeing the line, that you should just head on down to the local library. I know many people who have given up season tickets because they just weren’t enjoying it anymore. Negative interactions with other fans can be a part of the problem. I don’t know what the solution is except compromise. I really do think that everyone has a different way of enjoying the game. Maybe the ticket office should have more information about certain sections when purchasing tickets. Let buyers know that the south end zone is for fans that are pretty noisy and that like to stand. There should be some sort of warning before you purchase your tickets there. Like I said, I don’t mind standing a little, but I wouldn’t want to do it a lot either. When I go to a football game, I wouldn’t want to annoy or be annoyed. I just want to enjoy the game and give and receive common courtesy from fellow fans.
