Five Takeaways from Bill O'Brien's Post Maine Press Conference
Summary
Coaching: I anticipated that, but actually just watched it and he was more firey than I thought he'd be.
I anticipated that, but actually just watched it and he was more firey than I thought he'd be. I mean, the song & dance re 'it's on me' is really getting old but, I mean...he's right. At least he's saying that. If he needs some more creative plays, maybe find someone to come on as OC or an offensive consultant or something. I'd have to think it's hard to do everything a HC is responsible for, PLUS design and call all of the plays; that's why you have an OC. So go get some support/fresh eyes. I'd imagine that money is in the budget. I do think players need to keep improving and play up to their potential, but there should be some more finessed play calling to help showcase what we DO well.
Call me nuts, but i'm still hopeful. I dunno - yesterday I was so so disappointed. It was just such a missed opportunity. But I'm wondering if maybe the guys were kind of high on their red bandana win and just weren't as focused? I guess I'm hoping that they now really have something to prove, PLUS hopefully Bo and Michael Crounse will be back -- if we have everyone on the field, I'm hoping we can at least make VT competitive. I mean, their game against Maryland wasn't a blow out. And heck - then Rutgers nearly beats USC. Maybe college football is really just a mess bc everyone has these chaotic rosters full of new guys each season; maybe that doesn't actually make for better football.
