No waiver for Ethan Sipe
Summary
NCAA eligibility rules are ridiculously inconsistent; Sipe's waiver denial seems harsh.
Anton Chigurh said... (original post) That's really 3 years of play plus one where he got hurt in first game. This one seems a little tough. Everyone should get 4 years on the fie... show more I am all for suits at this point. The ncaa is absolutely ridiculous with inconsistency for eligibility. 9 years (the current record): Achieved by at least two players, most notably Miami tight end Cam McCormick (Oregon 2016–2022, then Miami). He redshirted as a true freshman (2016), had the COVID extra year (2020 didn’t count), and received multiple medical hardship waivers after repeated season-ending injuries (e.g., ankle issues, Achilles tear, and others across 2018–2021). This got him eligibility through 2024—his ninth year. He’s widely reported as the first (and for a while the only) to reach this. Montana LB Solomon Tuliaupupu was also granted a ninth year around early 2026.
