- Arkansas State entered game week with Ethan Crawford, Drew Dickey, Trey Owens and Jeremy St-Hilaire still close in a four-way quarterback competition that Butch Jones may not resolve publicly before kickoff. - Crawford is the strongest runner in Arkansas State's quarterback room and brings prior game experience from Southern Miss. - Vanderbilt transfer Dickey previously played under new offensive coordinator Garrett Altman, giving him the most direct experience in Arkansas State's new system. - Texas transfer Owens offers the biggest arm but has not shown enough consistency, while Vanderbilt transfer St-Hilaire is the least experienced candidate.

- QB: #ArkansasState coach Butch Jones isn’t concerned that the Red Wolves have reached game week without publicly naming a starting quarterback.

- QB: Arkansas State coach Butch Jones: “there is really no need to announce who our starting quarterback is… We have four capable quarterbacks.”

- Butch Jones said Arkansas State may carry its quarterback competition through pregame warmups against Memphis and plans separate offensive packages to exploit the contenders' different skill sets. - Jones believes added competitive depth has materially improved Arkansas State's offensive line, although battles for starting and rotational roles were still unresolved entering the opener. - Arkansas State's rebuilt defensive line remains a work in progress despite recent improvement, with only two traveling players from that unit having been in the program last season. - The Red Wolves had not settled the third running-back role, and Jones wants a deep rotation available for an eight-game stretch and a demanding early schedule.

- Pick/market: The Oswego East defense comes up big in the fourth, getting to Willowbrook’s Nate Jerkovic for a safety and pushing the Wolves’ lead to 15-6.
