- The hosts viewed Florida State's home game against SMU as a season-defining test of whether its roster talent translates into wins against stronger opposition. - They warned that a hypothetical SMU loss followed by a bye and another loss at Alabama could intensify pressure on the program before Central Arkansas, presenting a conditional schedule scenario rather than reporting those losses as results.

- Noles247 staff predictions all picked SMU over Florida State, with projected margins ranging from four points to eighteen points. - The staff repeatedly identified SMU's quarterback stability, offensive line, tempo, and coaching advantage under Rhett Lashlee as matchup edges over Florida State. - Florida State's defense was criticized for passive coverage, limited havoc, and doubts about whether the defensive line can pressure Kevin Jennings or hold up against SMU's veteran front. - Florida State's offense is viewed as needing Ashton Daniels to run actively, let throws rip, involve Duce Robinson more, and create balance to offset offensive-line issues. - One case for Florida State was that it had a Week Zero warmup, home field, and game-day setting, but most staffers still expected SMU to pull away late.

- Florida State defensive lineman Darryll Desir was ruled out on the final pregame availability update for SMU after previously being listed as doubtful, with no longer-term timetable supplied. - Florida State defensive back K.J. Kirkland also moved from doubtful to out for the SMU game, so his depth-chart listing did not establish that he was available to play.

- Ashton Daniels completed 17 of 27 passes for 202 yards, one touchdown and one interception while adding 30 rushing yards and a touchdown in Florida State's 34-17 opener win over New Mexico State. - Daniels showed useful processing on several rhythm throws and a late third-down progression, but his interception was followed by conservative decisions that left open receivers and limited Florida State's passing ceiling. - Daniels drifted in the pocket, hesitated against available windows and produced inconsistent downfield placement as pressure from Florida State's uneven offensive line affected his footwork. - Florida State used only two designed quarterback runs and limited the quick game that previously suited Daniels, with his average time to throw rising to 3.41 seconds against New Mexico State from 2.56 in his best Auburn performance last season. - Mike Norvell said Florida State will vary quick throws and vertical shots by opponent, but the offense needs to better match Daniels' strengths before facing SMU and a run of ranked defenses.

- Ashton Daniels completed 17 of 27 passes for 202 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Florida State's 34-17 opener, adding 30 rushing yards and a score. - Daniels' mobility created several of Florida State's best plays, but inconsistent pass protection forced him to escape frequently and contributed to a poor second-quarter interception. - Micahi Danzy and Duce Robinson combined for seven catches and 101 yards, while the offense showed multiple one-on-one answers through its receivers, tight ends and backs. - Florida State's backs powered the offense, led by Ousmane Kromah's 114 rushing yards and Samuel Singleton Jr.'s 130 combined rushing and receiving yards with two touchdowns. - The Seminoles need cleaner protection and more consistent quarterback decisions before facing No. 19 SMU and later traveling to Alabama.

- Florida State's pre-SMU flipcard retained Blake Nichelson in an OR listing with Caleb LaVallee even though the previous day's availability release had ruled Nichelson out, so that listing did not mean he was cleared to play. - Florida State removed the unavailable Jordan Crutchfield from his shared listing with Donny Hiebert on the SMU game depth chart, without providing a return timetable. - On Florida State's SMU flipcard, K.J. Kirkland moved from sharing the first listing with CJ Richard Jr. to the second line alongside newly added Antonio Cromartie Jr., leaving Richard alone in the top spot.

- Florida State's starting offensive line remains an open competition after the New Mexico State game, with Paul Bowling among the reserves pushing to alter the five-man group before SMU. - Mike Norvell said the line had issues with balance, eye discipline, finishing blocks and locating second-level targets, although its screen blocking helped create explosive plays. - Left tackle Xavier Chaplin's downfield block on Tre Wisner's long run was a bright spot, but the Week 1 practice competition will determine whether Florida State changes starters for SMU.
