Key News and Notes - Thursday Press Conference
- Brent Key acknowledged unspecified injuries but deferred details until next week, when conference-play injury reports begin. The interview does not identify affected Georgia Tech players or establish anyone's availability against Mercer.
- Key identified poor hand use and block shedding, failed edge setting and undisciplined play as Georgia Tech's run-defense problems. He expects Mercer to test concepts that worked for Tech's first two opponents, making corrected fits and technique the immediate defensive test.
- Key credited Vincent Carroll-Jackson with occupying two blockers and helping Thomas make plays at defensive tackle. His explanation emphasizes how the interior linemen work together, not a newly announced starting change.
- For young quarterback Mendoza, Key emphasized ball security, managing the offense, taking available plays and getting into the correct call. He wants composure in the huddle and at the line, rather than attempts to create extraordinary plays; no quarterback change was announced.
