Maryland AD Jim Smith explains Dontay Joyner decision NIL progress and gameday improvements
- Maryland reinstated defensive back Dontay Joyner after the team's leadership group urged Mike Locksley to give him a second chance, placing responsibility on Joyner to capitalize academically and athletically.
- Maryland exited camp relatively healthy but sustained one significant early injury that athletic director Jim Smith expects to have an impact, although he believes the affected position has enough depth to respond.
- Smith said quarterback Malik Washington had a strong camp and looked notably improved from last season.
- Maryland's internal camp assessment was also positive about both the running game and receiver play entering the Hampton opener.
