A quicker Foster, ‘the general’ and talk of more Merritt
- Rob Aurich likes the football violence that comes out of Dexter Foster when he plays quicker. "You see when he pulls his trigger what he looks like," Nebraska's defensive coordinator said Tuesday. "He has all the tools to be an exceptional player and he's on track for that." Comment: ." Right now Foster is the first and second down Mike, with Shavers the third down Mike.

Chambliss, McDougle add presence, perspective as Huskers keep their focus on what’s right in front
- Nebraska safety Dwayne McDougle started with the top unit last week after Rex Guthrie started the opener. McDougle has 86 defensive snaps, fourth most on the team, though his Week 2 PFF grade was 53.4. Vic Evans also started at corner last week. These are observed roles, not a newly announced permanent depth chart.
- Nebraska linebacker Owen Chambliss is back on the field and helps teammates align and understand assignments. Coordinator Rob Aurich described the return as only a mild version of what Chambliss can offer; Chambliss acknowledged rust and identified second-half starts as an area to improve. The comments do not confirm a new workload or play-calling designation.
- Nebraska's defenders are preparing for North Dakota's downhill interior running and Jerry Kaminski's pocket escapes, emphasizing containment and staying attached to receivers on extended plays. North Dakota averages 251.3 rushing yards; Kaminski is 61-of-79 for 801 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those FCS results came against lighter competition, not a projected output against Nebraska.

Chambliss, McDougle add presence, perspective as Huskers keep their focus on what’s right in front
- "We can't look at it as, 'Oh, this is just an FCS team.
- We're just going to come in and just whup them 50-0.' Because this is not a rollover team," McDougle said. "This is a North Dakota team and all North Dakota teams are elite." Comment: Aurich on the radio on McDougle and that position: The boundary safety has traditionally been the second or third leading tackler behind the Mike and Will.

Everything Matt Rhule said after Nebraska's win over Bowling Green
- Matt Rhule said Nebraska shut running back Jamal down at halftime of the 56-7 Bowling Green win because he felt tight and there was no reason to keep playing him. Kwinten, Conor Booth, Genatone and Mozee received opportunities. Rhule sees options in the room but stressed that two MAC games do not establish Big Ten readiness; no diagnosis or return timetable was given.
- Rhule praised Anthony Colandrea's accuracy, including the sail-route throw to Luke Lindenmeyer and deep touchdown to Jacory, and highlighted Jacory and Kwazi's practice work. However, Bowling Green's No. 23 disrupted protection too often for Rhule's liking: the large scoring output did not erase pass-blocking concerns.
- Nebraska adjusted to Bowling Green's spread, motion, screen and RPO looks before using three-linebacker sets as the Falcons shifted to heavier personnel. Rhule named Dexter, Owen and V9 in those packages, with Dawson also involved, and said assignment responsibilities against zone reads can make pursuit look slower.
- Bowling Green managed 169 total yards, but 90 came in the third quarter, which disappointed Rhule and limited planned offensive reserve reps. Scout-team defensive lineman Malcolm Simpson produced a sack-fumble after missing last year's practices following double labrum surgery; Rhule presented it as development progress, not a new starting assignment.
- Rhule said Nebraska must adjust its aggressive style to how games are being officiated after seven penalties for 65 yards. He credited individual effort for the punt block but also flagged a ball-fielding mistake that could have become a turnover, leaving discipline and special-teams ball security as corrections.
