WSU getting healthier: 2 starters to return Saturday, says Kirby Moore
- Washington State coach Kirby Moore confirmed starting cornerbacks Jalil Tucker and Khamari Terrell will return against Duquesne. Both missed Kansas State: Tucker had a leg injury from the Apple Cup, and Terrell was diagnosed with a concussion during the week. Their returns restore two starters to the secondary.
- Washington State expects defensive ends Malachi Wrice and Mike Hughes to remain out; Hughes may be out longer and was removed from the official depth chart. Luke Webb and Jack Procter received practice reps. Moore wants a rotation that keeps the front fresh on third down and improves the conversion of pressure opportunities into results.
- Washington State tight end Trey Leckner is practicing at a higher level, but his workload remains week-to-week; Jack Pedersen is essentially the lone tight end in use. Moore expects Peyton Read to be available. Huddy Cedarland's return is closer to midseason, while Ryan McKendry is still working back without a firm return date.
- Washington State receiver Caleb Northcroft has moved into the two-deep with Tony Freeman out for the season. Moore credited Northcroft's work since arriving after July 4 and said special-teams opportunities are also coming. This is a concrete expansion of Northcroft's role, not just general practice praise.
- Washington State plans to rotate offensive linemen, with Moore pointing to Jaylin Caldwell's work in the previous game. Keeping the line fresh is one goal, but Moore also said the unit must improve assignment coordination, which was an emphasis in this week's preparation.

Monday Thoughts
- Game breakdown: People can disagree with me but a good OC can scheme a way for their OL to succeed.

Just my opinion
- OL/WR: I can give some benefit of the doubt on oline play and losing the top wr, but agree with you in that it doesn't seem playcalling has done much to help out.

3 instant takeaways: Cougs' problems are getting harder to ignore after loss at K-State
- Washington State's offense scored no points in the 34-7 loss at Kansas State; Jaylen Thomas supplied the only touchdown on a last-play pick-six. WSU gained 166 yards, including 65 passing, and averaged 3.3 yards per play. Through two road games against Power 4 opponents, the team has 17 points and averages 263.5 total yards.
- With standout receiver Tony Freeman sidelined by injury, WSU's blocking remained a major concern: Kansas State recorded four sacks and eight tackles for loss, while the Cougars ran for 101 yards on 30 carries. The report singled out left guard Kyle Martin's struggles but described problems across the offensive line.
- WSU converted only 2 of 12 third downs at Kansas State and is 2 of 21 through two games. Its defense allowed 10 of 16 conversions, after holding Washington to 4 of 12, and faced 74 plays versus WSU's 50 as Kansas State controlled possession 34:20 to 25:40.
- Kansas State rushed for 295 yards on 40 attempts against WSU. The Cougars barely blitzed for a second straight week and finished with no sacks and one hurry, although four-man pressure helped produce Thomas's two interceptions. The article does not establish that more blitzing is planned.
- Special-teams execution also hurt WSU: Jack Stevens's 37-yard field-goal attempt was blocked after a low kick, and the punt unit allowed a 62-yard return. Duquesne at home is the next chance to assess corrections after the two Power 4 road losses.
