Memphis's RBU tradition continues with Jaylin Carter's breakout debut
- Sophomore Jaylin Carter opened the Charles Huff era as Memphis's lead back with 97 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries, including a 36-yard third-quarter score that tied UNLV at 21.
- Carter's 36-yard touchdown came on an RPO that quarterback Marcus Stokes read as a handoff, showing that the run game can punish defenses for committing to the pass option.
- Memphis averaged 5.7 yards on 34 rushes against UNLV, with Carter leading a matchup-dependent rotation followed by Manny Covey's 11 carries for 46 yards, Stokes's seven carries for 45 yards and only one carry for Dallan Hayden.
- The Tigers won the opener 27-21 and next host Arkansas State on September 5 at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
