Charles Huff Press Conference-September 15, 2026
- Before UT Martin on Sept. 15, Charles Huff counted 17 Memphis missed tackles against Boise State. He linked them to poor angles and leverage, with late-game pressing producing dives and lunges from bad positions. His correction was to preserve tackling fundamentals as urgency increased, not an announced personnel change. - In his Sept. 15 Boise State film review, Huff said Memphis' corner and safety collided on a crack fit against outside zone instead of occupying different levels, contributing to a long run. He also said the defense failed to recognize a reverse it had scouted during the damaging pre-halftime sequence. These were assignment and recognition failures, not a new coverage call. - In the Sept. 15 review, Huff took responsibility for a changed kicking-unit set-up cadence: crowd noise left some players set and others upright. He said the unit subsequently switched to getting everyone set at the start, before the field goal ahead of halftime. This was a cadence correction, not an announced punter, holder or kicker replacement. - Explaining a late fourth-down choice against Boise State on Sept. 15, Huff said he pursued a touchdown because Memphis still needed three scores and he was unsure the defense could earn another stop. Repeated red-zone stalls also shaped the decision. He said a closer game could call for a different choice, not a standing policy against field goals.
