Day Full Video: Ohio State coach says conversations have been good since loss
- In Tuesday's press conference, Ryan Day said DE Zion Grady's and OT Phillip Daniels' injuries were not expected to be long-term, but their availability for Kent State depended on how the week progressed. Neither was cleared to play in that update.
- Day said Ohio State completed only two of 12 second-half passes at Texas and needs to involve receivers beyond Jeremiah Smith while establishing a more consistent run game. Several concepts began with Smith before progressing elsewhere. Day attributed the lost rhythm to shared quarterback, receiver, protection and coaching execution, not Julian Sayin alone.
- Ohio State misidentified some protections and allowed free rushers against Texas, although Day thought the line handled many twists and movements adequately. A nine-yard loss followed by a sack also damaged one red-zone possession. Protection identification and avoiding negative plays are specific issues to track before assuming the scoring problems are corrected.
- Day said Ohio State did not generate enough late pressure on Arch Manning, including poor execution when it attacked on fourth down. He wants ways to involve young defensive lineman Khary Wilder and said linebacker Riley Pettijohn will continue to play more. Those are rotation-development plans, not announced new starters or a fixed blitz package.
- Day wants Joe McGuire's placement punts to pin opponents near their goal line rather than leave the ball around the 15. He said inadequate execution could mean going for fourth downs instead, and acknowledged an opportunity for greater aggression on a later fourth down in Texas territory. No blanket fourth-down policy or punter change was announced.

Matt Patricia...
- DL/LB: I don’t think he’s JAG, but if anyone hoped he was going to be Williams or MacDonald then get used to disappointment — can and will have better 3Tech outings, but he needs help...

I have Thoughts
- QB/OL: Ryan Patrick Day can be replaced, and the Ohio State coaching job isn't harder vs TX, BAMA, MI, GA, etc.

Payton Pierce = Tuf Borland
- Pick/market: the upshot of this whole discussion is, LB play is not what it needs to be, but we're not quite sure how to address it.

Changes.
- DL/LB: My own opinion is because he remembered last year multiple goal line stands by the defense.

Everything Ohio State coach Ryan Day said after losing to Texas Longhorns
- After Ohio State's 24-23 loss at Texas, Ryan Day said second-half offensive drives stalled and the Buckeyes never found a sustained rhythm. He accepted responsibility for the shared game plan and call sheet rather than announcing a play-caller change. The issue he identified was inconsistent execution and finishing, not a newly declared offensive identity.
- Day attributed Ohio State's red-zone failures to inconsistent rushing, a sack, and insufficient throwing and catching. He said the staff still needed film review to identify common causes, so the interview does not establish a single blocking problem, an injury explanation, or a personnel replacement.
- Ohio State deliberately rotated defensive personnel at Texas, but Day said stalled offensive possessions repeatedly put the defense back on the field. Texas then sustained drives and converted fourth downs. Day described excessive second-half exposure despite the rotation, not a newly shortened defensive depth chart.
- Day said Ohio State used drop-eight coverage effectively for portions of the game but could not generate pressure often enough when it needed to, especially late. He said scheme, coaching and personnel would all be reviewed; no specific new blitz package or lineup change was announced.
- Ohio State missed a field goal that could have restored a two-score lead. Day treated that miss, the stalled offense and failed defensive stops as a combined fourth-quarter breakdown. He did not announce a kicker change or identify an injury behind the missed kick.
