Dylan Lonergan wants to keep Rutgers QB competition edge throughout the season
- Boston College transfer Dylan Lonergan beat AJ Surace for Rutgers' starting quarterback job after an eight-month competition and is the roster's only quarterback with a Power Four start.
- Lonergan started nine games for Boston College in 2025 and produced 2,025 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions despite the Eagles' broader ACC struggles.
- Rutgers has shifted Lonergan's preparation toward the UMass opener, with the quarterback emphasizing daily consistency rather than relaxing after winning the job.
- Lonergan's experience winning camp competitions at Boston College and Rutgers, plus competing at Alabama, gives the Scarlet Knights a starter accustomed to learning new systems and handling job pressure.
