UCF Defense Must ‘Fight for 60 Minutes’ as Alex Grinch Prepares for TCU
- For UCF's 2026 TCU game, the report identifies Jahleel Culbreath, Tackett Curtis and Jayden Jennings as linebacker depth options with Lewis Carter unavailable. Alex Grinch says playing several linebackers reduces the burden on the highest-snap players and sustains run and pass responsibilities. He does not name a new starter or specify a snap split.
- Ahead of TCU in 2026, Grinch says UCF defender Sincere Edwards missed the offseason after an injury upon joining the program but has found a role and is making an impact. Grinch thinks that role can grow and says Edwards has a voice on the defense. This is the coordinator's current assessment, not a new injury designation or a promised workload increase.
- For UCF's 2026 defense, Grinch wants better pressure from four rushers without needing extra blitzers. Against quick passing, he discusses mixing tight coverage and eyes on the backfield, avoiding predictable early-down looks and getting defensive linemen's hands up. These are stated improvement priorities, not a newly installed all-man or blitz-heavy package.

Initial injury report released for TCU vs. UCF
- UCF's initial report for the 2026 TCU game lists quarterback Alonza Barnett III, linebacker Lewis Carter, right guard Owen Spell and receiver Duane Thomas Jr. as out. Barnett and Spell also missed the previous game, Carter leads with 24 tackles, and Thomas has yet to appear this season; no return dates are supplied.
- UCF backup receiver Jonathan Bibbs and backup nickel Kahmel Johnson are questionable for the 2026 TCU game. Bibbs has four catches for 52 yards and a touchdown. The report supplies neither a diagnosis nor a clearance for either player, so their backup roles do not establish game-day availability.
