- Practice: Very nice summary to end the spring practice session Jeremy.

- Injury: He was out for spring ball due to injury.

- Illinois added Lincoln Williams late, but the available role sounds more like QB depth than an immediate path to the starting job. - The staff liked Donovan Larry, but Williams is framed as having a different level of arm strength after Larry transferred out. - Williams is described as having the mechanics and physical tools to eventually compete for a job, while facing an uphill climb to win a starting spot right away. - His near-term value is emergency depth or a developmental option who could work into some kind of role after arriving in summer/fall.

- QB: How Unity QB Dane Eisenmenger reached 'dream' of playing for #Illini: 'I'm excited I get to be a part of it'

- QB: How a Jersey coach convinced a Mississippi QB to join #Illini: 'Two different people from different cultures'

- Top Betting/Intel Takeaways - Program baseline: Tom Fornelli says Bret Bielema has raised Illinois from volatility into its best modern floor: reset years now look like 7-5/8-4 rather than 3-9/4-8. - Bielema market perception: Fornelli ranked Bielema higher than the public CBS ranking because the Arkansas tenure still drags national perception, even though Arkansas declined after him and Illinois has become respectable. - Offensive stability: Barry Lunney Jr. entering year five matters; Fornelli credits the staff with having a plan and tailoring offense to personnel, and says offense has not been the core problem during the 19-win stretch. - QB Katin Houser: Fornelli liked Houser as a portal fit before the move happened. The appeal is Big Ten experience, ECU RPO background, size, and a better outside-numbers/deep-ball profile than Luke Altmyer.

- QB/OL: In the video below, Bud Elliott sits down with Jeremy Werner of Illini Inquirer to preview Illinois' 2026 season.

- Illinois hires Bobby Hauck (Montana HC) as DC, switching to aggressive 3-3-5; returns strong secondary, new QB Katin Houser (ECU transfer).

- QB: Hopped on @Cover3Podcast Summer School with @BudElliott3 to talk big changes to #illini staff and roster, a new QB and the 2026 schedule

- Bret Bielema selecting transfer quarterback Houser as a Big Ten media representative signals that Illinois expects him to become the face of the offense after Luke Altmyer. - Houser is still a first-time starter, so the key transition is earning locker-room trust and converting experience into production rather than assuming an immediate All-Big Ten ceiling.

- New defensive scheme initially difficult to game plan, but advantage disappears after year one; defense may get bulldozed thereafter.

- DB: Now that Spring practices are completed please prepare a revised depth chart piece.

- Illinois strengths: talented experienced secondary, strong LB group, quality QB/RB/WR; DL concern; OL talented but inexperienced.

- — Mike Coach Linehan has been named Illinois' defensive ends coach, head coach Bret Bielema announced. "We are excited to welcome Coach Linehan to our staff," said Bielema.

- — Steven Coach Koch has been named Illinois' assistant special teams coach, head coach Bret Bielema announced. "Coach Koch will bring a valuable perspective to our special teams units while working alongside Coach Hurd," said Bielema.

- Pick/market: Logging my season prediction now: 8-4 Don't think you could ask for a better schedule in a re-tool / new scheme year.

- 3-3-5 defense hybrid of 4-2-5, allows coverage/pressure variety. - Scott and Bailey benefit from scheme.

- Offense: @Illini_Guys : Months before his first practice session w/ @CoachUnderwood , Quentin Coleman ( @QuentinC_1 ) used his FIBA Under-18 debut on Monday night to show his future college head coach how he can...

- Illinois at 7-5 range: Luke Altmyer departed; lost entire offensive line and defensive line; new defensive coordinator implementing new system; Katenhouser (QB) keeps floor high but major question marks on roster; could "crater" to 4-8 range or stall at 7-5 (long-term thinking not worst thing given momentum reset). - Illinois (Brent Underwood)

- Feagin's zone read runs rarely reached second step; tight end switch gives him space to create bulldozer moments in 2026 SR season.

- Anderson better short-yardage/goal-line back than Feagin; lower pads, hits hole harder; expect limited snaps on key plays.

- LB: NCAA changes targeting penalty for 2026: player ejected for targeting for 1st time in a season can play in next game; player ejected for a 2nd targeting offense will miss 1st half of next...

- Illinois WR Jayshon Jackson (FAU transfer) standing out in spring under Bret Bielema.

- DL: Joe Barna is embracing the new #illini defense, a big role and a new position on the defensive line this offseason.

- — Jordan Coach Thomas was named Illinois' defensive line coach/run game coordinator, head coach Bret Bielema announced. "Coach Thomas is a great fit for our Illini FamILLy with an immediate understanding of our defensive system," said Bielema.

- Beerman in green jersey last week, possibly not full participation.

- Defense: Please discuss in the Illini Football thread

- James Finley's sparse HS offers unclear; beneficial portal dominoes fell for Illinois eventually.

- Intel: I just watched the Illini beat Purdue behind 46 from Wagler.

- Intel: my bottom line comment regarding outside financing is “ why is it necessary ?” the B1G has a huge inflow of cash every year from Fox, CBS , NBC etc .

- Intel: The #illini have taken massive steps as a program under Bret Bielema, and AD Josh Whitman is confident the program can take the next one: Make the (soon-to-be-expanded?) CFP.

- Intel: ONLY 11 weeks until the #Illini kickoff the season against UAB

- LB: Bears-Illini fans will love this quote from Bret Bielema about Caleb Williams after attending Bears’ practice last week @thescorechicago

- LB: Illinois football: Ranking the #Illini transfer portal additions who will make biggest impact on 2026 season

- Intel: #Illini football offseason superlatives: Best add, most important returner, biggest strength, biggest questions

- Illinois benefited from quality practice player; Bilic positioned to transfer or return.

- Intel: Not pouring one out but dropping a Marlboro for our sweet Prince.

- Intel: Never wanted a transfer to succeed more than him - hope he kills it next year

- Brandon Lee entering portal; was expected 15 mpg scorer, improved under program training.

- Pick/market: What is the way too early Illinois Football Big Ten Room rankings for Fall 2026 by 4ths.

- Miller being coach makes annual schedule concerns return every year.

- Illinois OB room most athletic/versatile LB group under Beilema; tweener backers, boundary/field-side ends with P4 potential.

- Cam Brooks tore Achilles; Demetrius John best defensive tackle bet; Isaiah White impressive but limited spring action.

- Pick/market: I see Underwood starting him as lead guard and pulling him for bad D and sitting him for 4-5 minutes while Stojokvic shifts to the 2 and Davis...

- DL: I’ve stayed at 7 because a lot of the action has happened here.

- Bret Bielema planning to add couple more portal additions to Illinois roster.

- Intel: “BELIEVE IN BRET BIELEMA, LUKE ALTMYER JR!” #illini #cfp #collegefootball
