The offensive line allowed pressure to reach Jaylen Raynor and generated only just over 100 rushing yards against the FCS opponent, leaving protection and run blocking as concerns entering Iowa. - Iowa State generated six sacks against SEMO, including three by Isaac Terrell. The preview describes Jesse Bobbit's new defense as more aggressive than Jon Heacock's prior scheme and notes Bobbit's Washington State unit produced 31 sacks last season. The opener established pressure production, but against FCS competition rather than Iowa's line. - Iowa State QB Jaylen Raynor completed 50% of his passes for about 180 yards with two passing and two rushing touchdowns in the opener. The preview flags downfield accuracy as a concern: last season he threw three touchdowns and six interceptions on attempts of at least 20 yards. That is historical context for the Iowa test, not a forecast of turnovers.

- Iowa State's 2026 defense under Jimmy Rogers uses a more traditional four-man front and varied linebacker pressure rather than the previous 3-3-5 structure. Green-dot linebacker Sullivan Schlimgen made nine tackles, six stops and three pressures against SEMO, giving Iowa another pressure source to account for alongside edge Isaac Terrell. - Iowa State's Jaylen Raynor opened with 184 passing yards and two touchdowns on 8-of-16 passing plus 32 rushing yards and two scores. Dominic Overby's two receptions gained 85 yards, but the preview says the conventional run game stalled after Aiden Flora's early 17-yard gain and left tackle Jake Taylor was stronger in protection than run blocking against SEMO.

- QB/WR: Roehl didn't show it last Saturday but will likely see a significant volume of RPOs and passes out of that are generally not down the middle but moreso in the flats outside the tackles.

- Iowa State's podcast discussion anticipated three running backs seeing the field and was positive about the staff's use of the running-back group, without establishing a specific workload split. - The speaker viewed Arnold Barnes as an interior power-running option, but made that outlook conditional on the offensive line improving and creating better running lanes.

- QB/WR: I want to see more of Raynor and him actually throwing out routes and stuff over middle before we have a better QB.

- QB: The heat didn't bother me at all....sat outside the entire time when going inside Sukup was an option only a few feet for me away.

- QB/OL: Not that I disagree, but Rogers did say on more than one occasion we intentionally ran the ball against even when outnumbered in the box “just to see if we could handle it.”

- OL/RB: Abu is fast and I think we could have used his speed in different or more creative ways than just line up at RB.

- Offense: My opinion is that this staff is just flat out more football strategy and preparation savvy….by a lot.

- OL: Welcome...from an old cooter from the east-end of the ol' Boyer Valley Conference.

- RB/LB: My early assessment of Raynor from the brief sample size from the stands is I don't believe he's really inaccurate, I think he struggles to read coverage and is late on decision making and...

- QB: Hank Brown being terrible is the only reason we have a chance in my opinion.

- QB/LB: On the game front, obviously they are a big favorite (and should be).

- OL: Bindel got the start but they rotated a lot on the O-Line throughout the game.

- The hosts credited Iowa State's defense with stepping in to support the SEMO win while describing the offense as still having considerable room to develop. - The offensive line was specifically identified as a unit with room to improve, tempering the offensive assessment despite the win.

- OL/LB: Doesn’t shock me Braden Smith graded out the best of the OL.

- QB: Yes, but in the NIL age, Rocco also makes I am guessing more than 300% more than Raynor.

- Coaching: AMES – In Iowa State's 38-10 victory over Southeast Missouri on Saturday inside Jack Trice Stadium, the Redhawks had just one pass go for more than 16 yards.

- Injury: It’s really fun having no idea who these people are lol

- KICKER: Our punter is not good enough for our ******* offense.
