- Pick/market: I was perhaps least connected to Walden out of any ISU FB HC since Majors due to having moved out of state, no ISU games on TV and before internet.

- Top Betting/Intel Takeaways - Iowa State's spring-game takeaway was defense first: the hosts came away more confident in the defense than the offense, especially the front seven. - The new defensive approach showed far more man coverage and a four-man-front look than Iowa State has used in recent years, which the hosts see as a needed evolution against power run and mobile QB offenses. - The tradeoff is clear: Iowa State may allow a few more explosive plays, but the hosts expect more turnovers and a more aggressive defensive identity. - QB competition is real but healthy. Jalen Raynor is viewed as the current starter, while Zane Flores pushed hard and led both touchdown drives in the spring game.

- Iowa State's first spring media availability featured Tyler Roehl, Jesse Bobbit, Carson Willich, and Cameron Pettaway.

- Flora and Pettaway are dangerous in the return game and as receivers out of the backfield.

- RB: Don't remember if it was Rogers or Roehl, but when asked by a reporter yesterday about a RB's performance, the coach mentioned the kid needed to get better taking care of things off-field.

- Caleb Francois is a straight-line speedster with good hands, reminds one of a shorter Hakeem Butler in space.

- Jimmy Rogers says Salahadin Allah is out for season with torn Achilles; only six RBs available.

- Iowa State coach Rogers gets a crude “nutcup” welcome after Salahadin Allah injury.

- Iowa State signed Tulane RB transfer Arnold Barnes, who ran for 757 career yards; solid late addition.

- Wait for roster updates before judging O-line/RB heights and weights.

- Injury: Definitely would be nice if one of the two freshman was ready to at least fight for position on the depth chart to give us some buffer from injuries.
